Birth is ordinary!

There is something so intimate and innate about giving birth at home.

While the rest of the world continues on in their hustle and bustle and routines, I am safely snuggled in my own home; patiently awaiting the arrival of the little one that holds my heart.

There are no bright lights here.

No running around.

No rush.

There is only the buzz of anticipation, the determination of a mother.

The people here are quiet, kind, patient. They are wise and knowledgeable; readily embracing God’s intricate design for childbirth. I remind myself to have courage. What can’t a mother do for her precious children?

As things grow intense, I search deeper within myself. Do I have what it takes? What if I can’t do this? Asking these questions reassures my heart and mind, for I know the end is near.

Seemingly after an eternity and simultaneously no time at all, a slippery baby is placed onto my chest. Warm, smooth, perfect. The feeling of seeing someone for the first time, even though I’ve known them all along is indescribable, yet so ordinary at the same time.

No one pokes or prods us. We are in our own little world, becoming reacquainted after such hard work.

Is there anything more satisfying than this?

I would venture to say…. there is not. ❤️
